Periodontal Gum

Treat Periodontal Disease With Periodontal Gum Treatment With The Dental Team.

The Dental Team provides our patients suffering from periodontal disease with comprehensive treatments to stop the infection and improve the mouth’s overall health. Periodontal disease can quickly sneak up on patients, creating larger issues, including tooth loss.

What is Periodontal Disease?

Gum disease, or periodontitis, is an infection that damages the bone and soft tissue that support the tooth. If it goes untreated, the bone around the teeth will disintegrate.

Bacteria and other microorganisms stick to the tooth’s surface and in the pockets around the tooth. The bacteria multiplies and toxins are released, resulting in inflammation.

Some common signs of gum disease include:

  • Bleeding and red gums

  • Tender or swollen gums

  • Pus in between teeth and gums

  • Bad breath

  • Receding gums

  • Major tartar buildup

What is Periodontal Gum Treatment?

During your evaluation, our dental team will assess your gums and teeth. A dental hygienist will remove any plaque that’s on your teeth, by scaling and root planing. This removes calculus, bacterial toxins, and plaque that have embedded into your tooth’s root surfaces.

Daily flossing and brushing at home can help with the removal of plaque build-up as well. If your gum disease has progressed to a certain point, there are additional solutions that can help provide relief.

Routine dental cleanings can help prevent gum disease. However, if you already have periodontitis, one of The Dental Team’s many locations has the tools and experience to give you relief.

Additional Periodontal Gum Treatment Solutions

Flap Surgery

During flap surgery, calculus is removed in the deep pockets around your teeth. Your gums will be lifted back and any tartar is removed. Finally, the gums are sutured back into place so they fit closely to your tooth.

Tissue and Bone Grafts

If your gum tissue and bone have been destroyed, a bone and/or tissue graft can help. Synthetic or natural bone is put where your previous bone was lost. It also helps promote bone growth.

Your dentist will evaluate your teeth and gums, providing you with a customized treatment plan based on your needs.
